Southern Pride @ Off The Line - NYE

Postby SmittyG on Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:12 am

Off the Line (someone correct me if I have the name wrong) is the new name for what has been known as Country Connection then Barb's Place and then Doyle's Place. :) You know I have been here too long when I start naming off a building's lineage. I think they are going to try and open this Saturday (Dec 20th); I don't know if they have a band set up for that or not. I just got the info on this a little while ago and I'm a little fuzzy on some of the details so I will come back to this thread as I find out more.

Well, if the post about the NYE party at the Frosty Mug is correct, then this gig is no longer on the books. First I've heard of it so I will see if I can get a clarification and get back to everyone.

Greg (frontman) said he talked to the bar owner today and she said nothing about the NYE gig being canceled. However, he had not read the email I sent him about all of this at the time he talked with her and so he never specifically asked about it. He said he would try to get around to calling her in the next few days or so and see what she says.

I talked Robin (the owner of the club) yesterday because she is wanting some jams started up for her clubs. As of that conversation, the club is opening today as planned and Southern Pride will be in there NYE. Again, if anything changes or if I get more info, I'll let everyone know.

Hope everyone made it through Christmas OK. Now we get to the second round of the seasonal double-header. This show is a go, however, since I've come across no advertising that the place is even open, much less that they are having a band on NYE, then you add in the fact that so many great bands are in play that night at so many venues, and I have some pretty low expectations on the size of the crowd I'll be playing for. But that's cool--we are getting together Sunday to ramp me up on some of the group's originals and will be getting into SMART studio some time after the turn of the year to record them. So, I'll get a chance to run through the new material in a live setting before we hit the studio. That's a win for me. :)

Everyone have a very happy and very safe NYE celebration. Let's not lose anyone out there. See you on the far side.

Cool. I wasn't expecting any push behind this show. This is a very pleasant surprise.

OK, there were a LOT more people at this than I expected. Thanks for coming out to party with us and thanks to Off the Line (OtL) for having us. I have to say that I was VERY surprised by the club itself. They have totally cleared the stage and it is dedicated for performance use. They have a sound system that flat ROCKS (and special thanks to Roj for using it to make us sound good). The place has been cleaned up and all new bar stools and tables and such. It is a very nice place and I am even more happy about the idea of doing a weekly open mic up there. All you musicians out there, here is your heads up: This place is totally configured for live music and looking to book acts--it is well worth getting up there to check the place out and get your name in the hat. I know I am looking forward to playing there again.
