The SmittyG Experience @ Club Next - 7/10

Postby SmittyG on Sun Jul 05, 2009 8:09 am

This will be the second outing of my jazz project, The SmittyG Experience. Joining me on stage this Friday night will be:

    Joey Moorhead -- Drums
    Scott Lent -- Percussion
    Jimmy Joe Akin -- Keys
Raj Adcock -- Guitar and Keys
    Jeff Green -- Guitar

I have tweaked up some of the grooves I used for my first show and added some new ones to the lineup. I'm very excited to see what the group will do with my ideas. If you are in the mood for something a little more experimental from your live music, come on out and give a listen; I would love the opportunity to present my music to you.

We will kick the show off around 9pm.

He is--an outstanding one. He is also a great keyboardist and bassist and not too shabby a rhythm guitarist. Oh yeah, he also has a great voice. Normally folks like Jimmy Joe and Raj, who can play just about any instrument they touch as well as sing, make me just want to strangle them. However, I have found it far more useful to just take advantage of their talent. :)

I was unaware that Scott Lent would be playing drums. You need to let me know these sort of things months in advance, Smitty so I have time to prepare myself mentally :D

Looking forward to the show!

It's that time, folks. I'm afraid Jeff had to bow out due to a bought of the summer crud (hope you get to feeling better, hoss), but the rest of us will be hitting the stage around 9pm or so. I'm really looking forward to it and hope to see some folks out to check out the show.

Thanks to Club Next, my band (Scott, Raj, Jimmy Joe and Joey), and all the folks who came out to my show last night. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to working up another one.

Good job man! I really enjoyed hearing you guys. Man! There's some hotties hangin' out there, Cold Beer too. Big plush chairs and seating. That place rocks! What a cool room. I'll be there for sure next time too.

Scott brought his Zoom H2 recorder to the show and we got some tracks. The first track doesn't start up until the tune is about over because we forgot to turn the recorder on before we started playing. One of the tracks is missing because I hit my upload limit for the week. Other than that, what you hear is what the recorder heard--I just chopped it into single song MP3s and did a few fades to clean the transitions.

You can hear the tracks at: http://www.virb.com/smittyg

I really liked 201,202,205 and 206. Just makes me want to jam along with em'. I noticed that little recorder sitting there on the table near where I and others were making a bunch of noise, talking etc. Sorry man, if I knew it was out there on the tables, I would have shut up, ha. That's a pretty good little hand held there, even in a noisey and obnoxious environment. I keep hearing guitar parts like Santana and Doors in there (when they're not there), I mean, other than the usual noises in my head, ha. Really tastful compositions Smitty!

Background noise wasn't an issue for me--it was a live recording after all. If I wanted studio silence, I would have gone to a studio. :)

And thanks for the kind words on the songs. Some things worked; some things didn't--but this show got me one step closer to the ideal so I'm quite pleased.
