SmittyG on Bass @ The Big Easy - 10/6

Postby SmittyG on Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:07 am

The second stop of my "Ten Fingers, Five Strings and One Asshole" tour will be at The Big Easy, downtown Texarkana, the first Tuesday of October. They open up at 6pm and I plan to be playing about 30 minutes or so after that. I'll go for a couple of hours and then they open up their stage each night for anyone who wants to share their music. I might have a couple of friends come out and join me for a song or two and see what happens. I'm going to mix up the arrangements a bit so I'm not just doing repetitive grooves the whole night (I'll have a couple of course; it's what I do :)). Come on out if you get a chance; I would appreciate the company.

Hey, Kids! It's The Formula For Whackiness!!!

Don't think of it as a delay. Think of it as a chance to get a head-start on The Big Easy's new 10-drink minimum.

Or their poetry. Their pain. Their unrequited love. Slides of the the family vacationing in Oregon. Whatever moves you.

Ah, yes, the laissez-faire theory of nightclub entertainment.

Normally, the manatee is a rhythmic creature, who lays under bright lights to get warm and beats his flippers repetitively to attract the female.

There you go: call it the Misery Loves Company Tour.

These are jokes, people. I don't dance. This is the whole show.

Just kiddin' with ya, Smitty. Erase it if it offends.

In fact, that's the book that music comes from.
Some of it is transcendental.
Some of it is really dumb.

The flappin' flipper remark actually made me chuckle out loud. :D

And not so laissez-faire as I first thought. The two folks I contacted about joining up for a song or two both replied with: "Any chance we can get together ahead of time to work some stuff out?" :)

That's pretty much the concept behind my whole show.

I've been asked quite a few times how this show went so I thought I would double check to make sure I posted the correct date (the first Tuesday in October) and bump this up so folks realize it hasn't happened yet.

Right now (and this might change if I get in one of my moods), the plan is for me to start off on my own for a set and then, for the second set, I am going to call up one or two individual guests to sit in on specific songs. After that, if I'm not tired and anyone is feeling froggy, I think I'll open it up for those wanting to try their hand at a different form of jamming.

I've heard rumors of some other folks starting to put together instrumental jazz/jam groups/projects of their own. Maybe some of those folks can come out and we can start something that can be ongoing.

One week to go and things are coming together nicely. Looking forward to mixing things up a bit from last time.

I won't be able to do this after all. My apologies to anyone let down by this.
