Southern Pride @ The Top Rail - 9/12 & 9/26

Oops; I totally forgot to post this. I barely know where the place is and have never been there so I really have no further details. I'm guessing the music will start around 9pm and I have no clue if they charge a door or not. Yeah, I'm really on the ball with this one--sorry about that, folks.

It has been a REALLY rough week at work and I'm just barely hanging in here. I wish I were more "up" for this--the guys get to play so infrequently they are pretty excited, plus it is a new venue for the band. I used to get excited about new venues but, after what I've been through with most of them, I lean a lot more toward the "devil that you know" approach to gigs. Yeah, I know, I am dropping the ball on the marketing and promoting the party thing big time.

Thanks for the catch on the directions, Raj.

WOW! That place was jumpin' last night. The crowd is definitely a country and western audience and would have liked a few more tunes in that style from the band, but they, for the most part, were pretty cool with what we did play. The part that amazed me the most is that, when I went on my mingle rounds to ask how folks were liking things (OK, I didn't really try to mingle, you folks know me, when I would pass by folks while I was going to the bathroom is what really went down), there were so many folks who were at The Top Rail for the first time last night--just to see the band. That just totally stunned me. On top of that, even though I went into the gig with a pretty shitty attitude (really rough work week and just run down and expecting to reenact the famous Blues Brothers bar scene . . .), once I started playing and folks started dancing, I had a really great time. Thanks to all the friends of mine who came out--it was a very pleasant surprise to see you all (especially in a country bar).

I had a lot of fun last time; hope to again this coming Saturday. And I'm stunned by the variety of bands they have coming in as I read it as a pretty straight up country place. I guess it goes to show that you can't judge someone's musical tastes just because they wear a cowboy hat and boots.
