Last night, Take 2 played Club Next and DrummerDude called me up and asked if I wanted to come keep him company while he was working sound for the guys. As I've explained in another thread, there isn't anything I watch on TV so I figured I would go along for the ride.
First, DD did a great job on the sound. This is shocking to me in that I had no clue he had any idea whatsoever how to run sound. But, everything was well mixed, balanced for the room and, the real test, at the end of a full night of listening to music, my ears were not ringing or stressed in the slightest.
As for Ray and Steven, I just can't say enough. I heard them the first time they played Fat Jack's but I have to admit I sort of dismissed them with, "Eh; not bad; would be better with a bass player in the mix." (Sorry; can't help myself--have to support my bass brethren.

) This time, however, I really paid attention to what they had going on. They have great mix of R&B and soul classics that I personally love and even tossed in their take on some classic rock covers that were quite refreshing to hear. The arrangements were smooth and tight and their vocal harmonies were very cool. They put on an outstanding performance and even got some of the Club Next regulars, most of whom are young enough to be my kid, clapping after each song. I was most impressed. (But, of course, as great as they were, I think they would have been just that much better with a bass player.

) If you want something different than regular guitar-oriented bands/performers (and nothing against those; that's who I'm on stage with 99.99% of the time), I strongly recommend you check out Take 2--you just might find yourself as impressed as I.
