Welcome!

Postby John Goforth on Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:56 am

Hi Everybody!

Welcome to the Stateline Music Festival! I'm confident that everyone wants to see an event such as this turn out to be a successful and fun event that will benefit our membership, and the community at large as well. Within such an event, there are several areas of operation. Promoting, Staffing, Running the event, Planning, Soliciting, and an entire host of support personnal needed to make it what it can ultimately be.

Who is needed right now?

Leadership positions within each deprtment. People who want to take on coordinating these individual efforts, and helping the people who volunteer their assistance.

What do you need to know?

Little or Much, ha. Being Willing is the biggest help. I will personally meet with anyone who wants to work in any aspect at all to train and give guidence in these functions. That way, no matter what you know or especially "don't know" you can work in a limited responsibility environment that does not require any one person to know everything about promoting and managing an event. I, personaly, am a volunteer the same as any of you.

I will post a list of the basic departments people can work in, and following hearing from people who want to manage any of them, I'll post topic threads for each, so that folks who want to pitch in, have a segment to focus on specific to their desires.

No doubt, there are many of you who would just love to work in an event, and learn how to do something technical or just operational to help. You will learn, and be offered the benefit of experiences by those who already know one of these functions well enough to help you learn it too. Between Today, and Saturday, November 7th. Anyone has sufficient time to be taught to do something valuable, and something you will always be able to do any other time in any other place.

Post your responses here. I'll begin to assign positions as soon as you do.

Let's make this event happen in a way that endures as a fixture of texarkanarocks. We are just as capable of making it a success, and continued success as any other group of Americans ever have before us. It begins with one concert in one park, in Texarkana. TX. It can only be so big. It's not Woodstck, but it is OURS. So there's not a reason in this world that WE together cannot make it as big as it CAN BE. And continue with it. We have the generous support of our city government, we have the generous support of our members, and those of other surrounding communitiies as well, Already.

This is no longer just an Idea, or a dream; it's reality Today. So step out and claim a place for yourself in all of it. There is a place for everyone regardless of experience or knowledge of the whole thing. You will most surely find it a Rewarding experience, not only in a civic and philanthropic manner, but in the personal experience you will gain for yourself as well.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Things are coming along nicely with every aspect so far. Darth Vader Music will be generously providing professional sound and lights; plus working with me for stage area design and strategic elements to make it easier for the performers to get on/off stage, equipment issues for a 7 hour event etc.

There's one issue still unaddressed: the Noon to 7:00 PM timeframe allows people to attend, then get on with their usual Saturday Night's. THat's a very generous and thoughtful thing in consideration of all the "Venues" here in town. I'd really like to see our local venues get involved in sort of continuing the Stateline Music Festival as a theme for the rest of the evening too.

I'm considering that this event will "Endure", so this is a real time consideration when it does continue year after year. Why not invite our venues to participate in that way now? Personally, I think the entire weekend should be dedicated to this event all over town. I can't see any reason at all they wouldn't embrace the concept, we're making the first move to support them with an event that doesn't take away from their business' times and operations. They have every reason to make this night a theme'd event too.

Of course, anyone out there with real contacts and who really knows anyone at these events personally, is very welcome to help coordinate these relationspips with the venues, just for this purpose. PM or email me.

Correction!

That's Garth Vader Music

My most sincere appologies for writing this wrong. Mr. Don Riddle and his incredible array of sound reinforcement, and considerable experience and talent in larger venues is such a big plus for all of us this year. We'll all benefit from Don's generosity in providing professional quality audio and engineering this year! The experience will be an outstanding one for everyone attending.

We're all so very fortunate to have such talent and generosity among us.

Thanks Don, and thanks to Garth Vader Music

Last night, I got a call from a friend I hadn't heard from in a while. During the conversation, he asked how mine and John's preparations were coming for this event. I'm not sure how this thing keeps getting mixed up with me, but I have nothing to do with it whatsoever. John has worked his ass off for this show. I'm sure he will keep doing so until the lights go out Nov 7th. He pulled together a great lineup of bands and has pulled together more community, media, and business support than I have ever managed for anything I've organized. And he did it all on his own. 100% of the credit for this event is his--it just isn't right for him to have to share it with me when I did nothing at all to help him out.

Who's looked at the myspace page for the Stateline Music Festival lately? Man! it's been up only a couple of weeks and approaching 3,000 hits so far! Songs are being played at a phenominal rate, Dusty Roads from Stone Rosevelt currently has almost 650 plays!

http://www.myspace.com/statelinefestival

High School students, this is your event. We need you on board now. Getting the word out to all the regional High Schools is very important for now. We are only a little over two weeks away.

Redwater High School and Pleasant Grove High School have both responded to requests, and their school newspapers are writing about the event. The others have not yet. We need representatives of every other High School in Miller and Bowie Counties. So give us a PM, we'll be happy to have you represent the Stateline Music Festival at your school this year.

Other news: So far, the Texarkana Gazette will place something for us this FRIDAY, as well as Friday, November 6th.
The Tyler News Paper via Jennifer Sharp will add something for their region, Texas Music Monthly, Four States Living Magazine, Music Scene Magazine and Nite-Life Music Magizine will all run pieces on the Festival.

KTXK 95.1 FM at Texarkana College has done an interview. KYGL "The Eagle" 106.3 FM will be doing promos for us too. Now if I could just sweet talk that cute little ol' Nadja Hall from Channel 12 into coming out...

I sent off requests to the A&R Departments of Universal Republic Music, and Roadrunner Records. Asking that they send representatives from their Dallas and Nashville areas to see our bands perform.

Very hopeful that Texas A&M mascom students will be there to shoot stock footage throughout the day as well. Anyone however, is very welcome to shoot video that we can use later to edit a DVD from. Wouldn't that be just wonderful?

That's all for now. Still need as many friendly hands as possible to help out in any way at all. Don't be shy, come on by, or drop an email.

Thanks everyone!

Very cool. I never thought about marketing directly to the high schools before. In hindsight, makes a helluva lot of sense. Good move.

They are the future of everything having to do with the ideals we all hold so dear, today. In no time at all, they'll all be of age to begin changing the local music scene to suit their generation. Just like we did, just like those before us did. The Stateline Music Festival will become their inheretance. It will be they who call the shots in the very near future. So, let's make it as sound a venture as possible today, for the foundation of tomorrow's local music scene. If I could ask for anything out of this, that's it.

Interesting development.

I can safely say I have never played a Garage Sale but it sounds like fun!
